Vitani is the (formerly) antagonist in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. She is the daughter of Zira and is the sister of Nuka and Kovu. Vitani's name was originally going to be Shetani, but the word means 'she-demon' in Swahili; so it was changed to Vitani, which can be taken as a portmanteau meaning "I Am War".

Appearance[]

Vitani is a slender, dark peach lioness. She has blue eyes with dark eye shades. There is a tuft of hair on her head. She is the same size as Kovu when she was a cub. Her fur is very bright compared to the other Outsiders. As a cub, her fur was almost orange in a few scenes.

As a young adult, she bears a close resemblance to her mother, Zira, and her hair tuft starts to recede as well as gain dark ear rims. She also has freckles, and is thin and lanky, yet very muscular like all the other Outsiders. Her fur becomes more yellow and and similar to a Pridelander, though it stays very bright. She, like Zira, has triangularly-shaped, almost glowing yellow eyes with beady irises. She is more scruffy, though, with thicker eyebrows and slightly longer and unkempt fur.

Personality[]

Vitani is something of a tomboy, likely from growing up in such an inhospitable environment. As a result, Vitani is portrayed as loyal to her mother's cause, tough, and prickly, who has a tendency towards making sardonic taunts or sly remarks. Vitani is aware of her own intelligence and loyalty (that is, in comparison to the rest of her family). Vitani is shown to openly support Zira's plan to make Kovu the next king, aware that Nuka is weak, simple-minded and cowardly. Vitani does seem to show genuine care for Kovu's safety, she trained to become almost like a solder, in doing so having a tough personality. becoming irritated towards Nuka for leaving him on his own, and again when she excitedly says 'Kovu, what a guy!' in Zira's number. As an adult, she sees the error of her ways, and becomes the next Outsider, after Kovu, to rejoin Simba's pride.
