Nala is an African lioness. She is Simba's wife and Kiara's mother. Nala is the daughter of Sarafina and an unknown father. She appears in The Lion King and The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride. She also makes a cameo appearance in The Lion King 1 1/2. She is voiced by Moira Kelly.
Nala was Simba's childhood best friend in The Lion King. She went with Simba to Scar's elephant graveyard, even though it was against Mufasa's orders (though she did not know that at the time). When Simba disappeared, she was seen crying. After she is all grown up, she tries to catch and eat Pumbaa and Timon, but fails when Simba stops her. After fighting and Nala pins him down, they recognize each other, much to Timon's surprise. She tries to convince Simba to come back with her, but they argue. Nala later finds Simba looking at Pride Rock in horror. Simba tells her to find Sarabi and rally the lionesses. After Simba defeats Scar and takes his place as king, she joins him as his queen. Later, she is standing with Simba when Rafiki holds up their new daughter, Kiara.
In The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, she is seen to be the more trusting parent, unlike Simba, who is overprotective because their daughter takes after him. She can still pin Simba down easily, and says that "he" put them in danger. She was also seen to be kinder to Kovu, but more fierce with Zira and the other Outlanders. Nala was really proud of Kiara when she grew up. She fought Vitani. However, it was unknown who won. She was very interested in listening to Kiara's idea of peace and was worried when Kiara and Zira fought and fell off a cliff and Zira fell to her death. She was very happy when Simba allowed the Outlanders to rejoin the pride.
In The Lion King 1 1/2, she is heard singing "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" with Simba, only it was not her voice being heard. She also was seen fighting Scar and his hyenas.
